“Takaoka Traditional Crafts Exhibition” will be held at Japan Traditional Crafts Aoyama Square [November 22nd to 28th, 2024]

We will be holding the “Takaoka Traditional Crafts Exhibition” at Japan Traditional Crafts Aoyama Square  in Akasaka, Tokyo.

 

・Exhibition
Come and enjoy the best of Takaoka’s traditional artisanship. Each piece of traditional copperware and lacquerware was created by our members designated as “Takaoka City Traditional Craft Experts.”

(A flower vase with a zogan metal inlay ,

which depicts a school of sayori fish )

Shinji Saito  (Lacquerware/Muji Nuri Lacquer Coat)

Serujimon dora-nuri sorigata moriki

(A curved serving platter with red dora nuri accents and an ingrained rectangular pattern.)

 

 

・Technology introduction
We will show videos that introduce the skills of our members, and display the tools and materials that the Takumikai members use in their daily production.

 

・Crafts Workshop
The Crafts Workshop is very popular every year. There is a limit to the number of participants, so if you are interested, please apply in advance as soon as possible. (See the bottom of the page for details)

It will be held every day during the exhibition, either in copperware or lacquerware, and two members will be present at all times.

[Metalworking Workshop ]

Try making small plates by applying pictures and patterns to tin sheets.

Your work will be given to you on the spot.

○Dates: November 22nd (Fri), 23th (Sat), 24th (Sun),25th(Mon)

○Start time: ①11:15~, ②13:30~, ③15:00~, ④16:30~ *Only ②, ③, and ④ are available on the 22th

○Experience duration: about 1 hour

[Decorative Raden Design Workshop]

Raden is a Japanese decorative technique used in traditional lacquerware and woodware crafts. It involves inlaying the iridescent inner layer of abalone shells and various other shells into the piece. Design your own Raden tray with the aogai-nuri technique where you create patterns with the small iridescent shells.
*Your tray will be delivered about a month and a half later, after the shells are polished and coated. You will be responsible for the cash on delivery shipping costs.

○Dates: November 26th (Tue), 27th (Wed), 28th (Thu)

○Start time: ①11:15~ ②14:00~ ③16:30~ ※Only ① and ② on the 28th
